Like Father Like Son

The Word became flesh and blood,
and moved into the neighborhood.
We saw the glory with our own eyes,
the one-of-a-kind glory,
like Father, like Son,
Generous inside and out,
true from start to finish.
John 1:14

Like Father, like Son. Jesus is the perfect revelation of God in all His fullness. A few days ago I was in discussion with a mormon on a street corner. He wanted me to accept that God had something more to say to me through Joseph Smith, that somehow Jesus wasn't enough. I said that God no longer had need for that type of prophet, that Jesus shows us perfectly the nature of God.

Then he asked me, Why do you believe the gospel?, and I'm glad he asked me because it made me think. Do you know what my answer is? I believe the gospel because I have met Jesus and in Him I find everything I need. He loves me, provides for me, leads me, speaks to me and so much more! When God becomes human flesh and says, Here I am!!!, what else do we need?

I must confess to struggling with reasons of the type "because I met Him", mainly because I haven't, at least not in what I would call the usual sense of the verb "to meet".

But I'm just being grumpy and don't mean any offense. God bless. Your blog is one of my favourites.

I believe in the gospel because I 've tested it and found it to be true. Jeusus is the Way the Truthg and the Life.

I am proud to say I am a child of God. I believe the Holy Bible is God's word and I hope to always live by His word.
I've had lots of conversations with Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses. Last one I had I asked the guy at my door if we could read John 1 together, and I began to recite 'IN the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word WAS GOD." Then we talked about how Jesus is the Word, alive today, and always with God.

That's about as far as I got with him, but I asked him to think about it- to think about the living Word, or as the Spanish put it "El Verbo"- the Verb, the action word.
He still moves in our lives today.

What a perfect response! Your blog is very inspiring to me. I have a friend that loves to talk to Jehovah Witness so much that they won't come to his door any more. He actually calls up their headquarters here and invites them to come by. Of course, it is to share the gospel.

Blessings on your day! You brighten mine.

PS Blogger s giving me troubles again so I have nothing to share at my site yet today. . . maybe later.

I think you gave a really good answer. Not everybody understand that you can meet Jesus, but the people who have can.
I met Jesus, too, because I know he changed me when I met him first.

Excellent answer, and unfortunately not one that someone can understand until they find it as well. :)

Thats such a wonderful... Its amazing how people can stumble over such a simple and clear teaching.

I tried posting twice and blogger didn't allow me to. So here's my third try. =)

I was reminded of a song, I'm sure it will bless you: He Promised Us

Robert, thanks for your comment. I must admit that I'm guilty of using cliches without thinking, but I looked in the dictionary and found that the word meet is the perfect word to use in so many ways!

I am afraid to say that my 'answer' to the Mormon chap was very much in hindsight. I think I probably mumbled something about Jesus being the last word. Those that know me will know that I'm not good at coming up with a quick answer!!

Ah Mike! What a great post! I sometimes get tongue tied so reading your answer is a gift to me. It says it all! HE said and says it all! Praise Him. Thank you for this great post!
In Him,

I've met Him, too! I consider that a blessing. For most, I think, His Word is there to believe and His Spirit there to guide. That should be enough...perhaps I'm enough of a problem child that he had to make a couple of personal visits.

I "think quick on my feet" a lot better with a keyboard than face to face myself 8-/

Finally, and perhaps the thing that got me started making this comment: I always figured that with the Bible, we've got the history of man since the beginning and the foreshadowing of the Messiah (among many other things, of course) in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, we have the Gospel and Acts, the history of our Lord and his apostles, the letters to guide us, and the Revelation to show us what's coming. I don't see room for a third testament when the New Testament has not yet been completely fulfilled. That, and the fact that no one man received either the old or new testaments indicates to me there is something fishy with the thought of a third one. Not to mention the warnings that close out Revelation. And finally, I do accept that some have the gift of prophecy to this day, but we are instructed to test the prophecy against the Word...the Holy Bible as we know it.

Wow, what long comment. Sorry, bro. Anyway, thanks for your blogs. I really enjoy reading them and am grateful for the new-found cyber-friendship with you and others this past year.

Michael
