More of God

Hand in hand
For some weeks a small group of us at church have been meeting to pray and worship together. We felt the need to have a space where there was no agenda but to worship and listen to the Spirit. For me it has been a complete joy as we have been enjoying His Presence in such a tangible way. At those times I know that there is nowhere better in the universe and nowhere that I'd rather be.

A friend recently asked me what the Spirit was doing in those meetings, and I struggled to answer. I still struggle to answer. I know what we do. We worship, wait, confess, pray, encourage one another. We often find ourselves crying out for revival, both in our church community and further afield. We are finding ourselves hungry and thirsty for more of God. But I'm not sure what the Spirit is exactly doing. I long for revival, and by revival I mean that I long for my heart to be revived in Him as well as seeing revival in my church and our nation return to Him. But how exactly God will do that I do not know.

My friends at Imrah have written on 'revival' and it is well worth reading and pondering on. Revival movements come and go but their effects may be felt far and wide with far reaching consequences. I myself am a Christian because of the revivals that took place here in England under Billy Graham when my parents became Christians. But God may not work like that again. He is the God of new things. As we pray in our little group and try to discern what the Spirit is doing, it is a huge relief to me that He is the one in charge. For me, to pray 'let revival come' is to pray, 'come Holy Spirit and do what You will, how You will and when You will'.  This prayer by Oscar Romero sums it up for me;

This is what we are about.
We plant the seeds that one day will grow.
We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise.
We lay foundations that will need further development.
We provide yeast that produces far beyond our capabilities.
We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that.
This enables us to do something, and to do it very well.
It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for
the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest.
We may never see the end results, but that is the difference between the master
builder and the worker.
We are workers, not master builders; ministers, not messiahs.
We are prophets of a future not our own.

"no agenda but to worship and listen to the Spirit"

This in itself is a "sabbath" of sorts from the ways of this world. A refreshing time, a renewing time, a reviving time for your spirits... This is so good!

That's really a great prayer. I need to look at in detail and meditate over it.

And - for the record (hee hee) -- the previous comment was posted on the first of August, not the second. And, it was posted on August 1, 2011, not 2 August 2011.

just saying...

You are doing exactly what we are doing in house church. What I see the Spirit doing is giving people the vision to do this and break away from agendas.
As the prayer (which I love) says and I know it to be true from experience, we need only to be obedient to what the Spirit is asking of us and the rest is down to God who holds all in His hands.
This kind of worship is going up in pockets all over the world.
Blessings Mike.
