Signs of Autumn

Signs of Autumn, originally uploaded by duopastorale.

Today was a day for visiting parents and having Mum's roast dinner. After complimenting the roast potatoes I was smartly informed that they had been cooked by Dad and that they were not up to scratch! Whoops. Sunday is still a day for having a leisurely walk for us and after lunch and a brief look at the amazing closing ceremony of the Olympics on the TV (how on earth are we going to match that in 2012?) we were taken, mainly by my 7 year old nephew, to the local park where the football could be given an airing. I then embarrassed myself by failing miserably at the basketball. We all took it in turns and then nephew proceeded to throw it in with his back to the net. As I shuffled away, having been shown up by a 7 year old I kicked something on the ground and after looking, thought, 'I think the summer might be over'.

I'm ready for signs of fall - Here, however, we still have a good month before even a hint of change in the seasons. Enjoy your Sunday with family.

Well, it sounded like the makings of a perfect day. . . we can't all be good at sports all the time and you could probably play as well when you were his age.
Did you compliment him?

As far as the dinner went -- different tastes for different people and that was surely a faux paux (sp) for them to put your compliment down. They could have said something like "Oh, do you think so? Dad is cooking more and more like me/taking up my talent! "

As far as the Olympics goes -- we haven't seen the closing ceremonies yet here -- and no one says your country has to be bigger and better -- just provide quality and the games themselves will be the hit.

We still have another week of summer and then there's up to 6 more weeks of Indian Summer where we could get some really hot days. THEN, fall colors are a real blessing. Of course , after that comes winter with the snow I love. . .

Funny about the potatoes and basketball! I loved to play basketball when I was young.
No real signs of autumn here except that it is getting just a little cooler and that's always good news.

Thank you Paulie for such a full comment! I'll just get my tongue out of my cheek.
Sounds like a grand Sunday. Sunday was always family day when I was a kid. We would visit with them or they with us. Times I treasure. Thank you! Cathy

summer was too short this year!

Bring on the fall. Don't mean to complain, but I would enjoy a shorter summer. Seems like the older I get, the less adept I am at sports.
