I've Got You

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand…You were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world…All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature.Hear my cry O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint…From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry. You hurled me into the deep, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. We went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.

Ps. 18:16, 40:2, Eph. 2:1-3, Ps. 61:1-2, Jonah 2:2-3, Ps. 66:12, Isa. 43:2

Last night during our worship time, all the songs pointed towards the faithfulness of God. It is a continuing consolation to me that even if I am unfaithful to Him, He will always remain faithful to me. The Christian life is full of highs and lows, and mountaintop experiences quickly turn into dark valleys. But, as someone pointed out to me yesterday, nothing much grows on a mountaintop, it’s in the valley where you find lush vegetation.

God seemed to speak to me during this wonderful time of worship last night. I felt the hand of God reach down into my own valley, and He simply “I’ve got you”. I was overcome by His love and forgiveness and peace in the midst of my own spiritual struggling. If you are there today, overwhelmed by your life, circumstances, failings and sin, then hear God’s voice to you. “I’ve got you. I’ve got you. Be still. I will never let you go. You cannot escape from My Spirit. Your darkness is not dark to Me. Be still. I’ve got you.”

Mike - this reminds me of a teaching a couple of weeks ago about the fig tree that was intended to bear fruit. (Luke 13:8) ...a gentle reminder to me that the "fertilizer" of life has a good purpose.

I am glad He's got me and I am glad I have Him. I have been in the valley many times and that is truly when I grow.
