Hosanna!

Jesus Christ Superstsar - Lloyd Webber

Today is Palm Sunday and we celebrate Jesus arriving in Jerusalem to great acclamation and praise. How quickly things changed! I love this clip from Jesus Christ Superstar. It brings the whole thing down to earth. And that is what the BBC are trying to do at the start of this Holy Week with their new series called The Passion. It starts tonight on BBC1 so don't miss it. I suspect it will be available on the iplayer later on. Have a blessed Palm Sunday everyone!

Hi Mike: thanks for stopping by my blog! Happy Palm Sunday!

Hosannah, according to my bible concordance, means 'Save, I beseech thee' and is presumably New Testament Aramaic, the language which Jesus spoke.

Hosanna is a hebrew word that is used in Psalm 118 to mean "Save!". I think the verse is 24.

However, this turned into a word of praise when Jesus entered Yerusalem implying "Salvation has come!".

We had a fantastic Palm Sunday. My husband always amazes me with his sermons. He called this one the "Perfect Storm"....While the crowds celebrated and sang ~~ Only He knew the perfect storm we was riding into ~~~ the garden, the trial, the beating and His death! But He endured the Perfect Storm for us ~~~~ Loved the idea !

Good Post Mike.

I usually love palm Sunday at my church. We have palms and sign Hosanna songs and everything is joyous. It is a big difference to what will follow this week during holy Week. . .

BUT . . .

Our pastor wrote the service this year and it included all of Holy Week through Good Friday and there was not much celebrating. I didn't like it to take the place of the usual Palm Sunday services. We go through that on special days on Thursday and Friday before Easter. Took away all the joy of the "parade." Then he had no sermon -- maybe the sermon was the whole thing?

hi mike -it makes a refreshing change to have something other than songs of praise on over easter. at last somethig that will hopefully get 'joe public' remembering that easter really isn't about bunnies laying eggs!!
