A Helping Hand

I Need Thee Every Hour

A man's steps are established by the Lord, and He takes pleasure in his way. Thought he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, because the Lord holds his hand....But Zion said, "The Lord has forsaken me, the Lord has forgotten me". "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!"...."O Israel I will not forget you. I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist.
Psalm 37:23-24, Isa.49:14-15, 44:21-22

'Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, because the Lord holds his hand'. Isn't that a lovely translation? It's from the HCSB Bible. I love the humanity of it. The simplicity. There is nothing super spiritual about it. It's just what we need sometimes, someone to hold our hand and be with us as we plod on. Someone to comfort us and give us hope and restoration just when we need it. That hand may come in various shapes and sizes.

This past week has been a bit of a struggle for me in different ways but yesterday our Bible Study group met. We worshipped, looked at the Bible and prayed for one another. I felt my hand being held. And then in the evening I went to a friends place and had Christmas dinner. Yes, she has been saving it in the freezer since last December! Turkey with all the trimmings! We ate, drank wine and laughed together. I felt my hand being held. This morning I have woken with a fresh hope that I will meet with God in a new way today. Perhaps as you go into this new day God will stretch out a hand to you in an unexpected way, or maybe He might ask you to be His hand to help someone else up.

I always picture myself as a small child holding Daddy's hand. And so I am...I guess I will never grow-up. At least I hope I can continue to try to stay a "child." So glad felt his loving Hand! Sometimes I feel a tap on the shoulder, too. Do you? You know, "Remember, Cathy, what I said?" Just like Daddy! Have a grand day!

Very nice, Mike! Yes we need fellowship and hands that hold us, at least sometimes. Other times we hold others up. That is so great in the body of Christ!
Have a blessed day!

It is so important that we extend that hand and that we be that hand extended. Thanks for this wonderful post to remind us of both sides of that.

So true, Mike. There are times when God graciously offers himself through the hands/love of others in a way that is so healing and good. :) ~Suz.

I am very familiar with God holding my hand at all times. . . the fact that I might be there to hold someone else's hand is not as visible to me BUT what a great concept! I am sure that God uses all of us to hold someone's hand at one time or another.
