Blessed Be Your Name

1How long, O LORD ? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?

2 How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and every day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?

3 Look on me and answer, O LORD my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death;

4 my enemy will say, "I have overcome him,"
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.

5 But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.

6 I will sing to the LORD,
for he has been good to me.
Psalm 13

Matt RedmanMatt Redman via last.fm

I love this psalm because it is real and honest. David doesn't hold anything back when he complains to God. He is fed up with waiting! He is tired of God who keeps hiding. I had been reading this psalm for a few days, and then last night at church we sang that wonderful song by Matt Redman and I thought, 'that's it.... blessed be your name anyway!'. In verse 5 David gets to this moment... I trust...and then... I will sing. Sometimes it takes us a while to get to verse 5. I don't really think God minds. He is with us and knows that the journey just as important as the destination. He is with us every step of the way.

Oh I love this Mike. I'm in a Beth Moore Study right now on the life of David. When you read I & II Samuel, and then the Psalm that was penned...WOW...powerful. He was an honest man with God..and God said...a man after my own heart!!
Good inspiration...! :)

Thank you for listing me on your Blogging Friends List.

It's almost a cliche to say that Psalms is one of my favorite books of the Bible, but it is really true because I find so many things in the Psalms that speak to my circumstances, over and over again.

Our life should be more of singing, both in happiness and sorrows we can turn to God with our songs.
Mike-
I've just gotten to the song part of my spiritual battle, after being in the waiting part for so long- and the song is rising up in me. Hallelujah!
Still haven't "seen" the major breakthroughs I'm longing for, but you can sure "hear" the song coming out of my mouth- by faith!

I love reading the Psalms and really enjoyed listenting to the song. :-)
People ask me why I'm so happy. I came across this saying which pretty much says it all - To know God puts a song in your heart and a smile on your face.

Yes Mike Chartwell is National Trust and well worth a visit.

I love this Psalm too as it is just my hearcry to God back in the 80's b ut in my words at the time. Great to now be living in God's answer.

I think we can all relate to David.
And God is so patient with all of us. Thanks for your insights!

I've noticed that several folks in the OT, notably David, and also Christ Himself, did not mince words when communicating with the Lord God.

It just struck me that they were being honest. A good example for us...pray with our hearts and not let things get twisted by our mind. Say what we feel and not what or how we think we should. The Lord already knows better what we need and feel than we do and/or can communicate anyway!

I agree, it's nice to know that even David, a man after God's own heart, has the same struggles. So thankful for God's mercy and grace!

Thank you for posting this psalm. It ministered to me today. I was having a mild fear day, which I have struggled with for many years, but as of late, I have been fine. I was disappointed that I couldn't seem to overcome it today though. The Psalm let me know that I wasn't the second-class Christian I feel like when this happens, or atleast that David felt like this too at times. Especially the part that says that it seems like the enemy is winning or something like that. So, thank you. God has used you to minister to me just by writing that psalm for me to "happen on" on this particular day.
