Mary, did you know?

This is a wonderful reflection on the mystery of Mary. I am moved to tears every time I watch it. We are told in Scripture that 'Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart', Luke 2:19. In Zeferelli's Jesus of Nazareth, there is a scene where Mary's mother exclaims in wonderment when she realises that her daughter will be going to Bethlehem and will have the child there. 'The prophecy!', she cries. But Mary is silent. Both Mary and Joseph must have known that Jesus was going to be an extraordinary man and it must have been an overwhelming time for them. Angels visited them, in person and in dreams, prophecies were spoken over them and shepherds and kings visited.

Mary, did you know? It's a wonderful question and I believe that Mary shows us what wisdom it is to be slow to speak when we have a revelation from God. He does need any help from us, but just quiet obedience.

(Please note that there are graphic crucifixion scenes from The Passion in this video.)

I 've got ot on CD...very moving indeed.Christmas would be incomplete without Good Friday.

Saw The DaVinci Code on cable TV 2 night back.He tried to rip off the foundation of the Christian faith. Lies and presumptions straight from hell.
Hi Mike, this is so good especially the part we have to keep quiet and obey
This powerful song was sung in concert Friday noc with John Angotti. It is truly a compelling song and when heard in the midst of other believers it can be a most moving experience. Thank you for bringing this gift to me again. GOD bless.

That is a great clip. Very touching. A great reminder about the price Jesus paid for us.
Thanks for posting this. I hope many people will watch it.
God bless you and have a great reminder of the Sunday.

Beautiful song...one of my favorites. I have always marveled at Mary's humility and submission to her Lord.

It was this quiet, but totally unfeigned and strong faith she had

Beautiful post about Mary. I pray that all can follow her example. I fail quite often. . .

I have to admit I did not watch your video -- thanks for the "warning." I did go see the movie "The Passion" on the big screen and also bought the video but have never taken the outer wrap off it. I don't need to as it is ingrained in my mind from seeing the movie on the widescreen and from my Christian beliefs and upbringing. I have it in case someday I do want to view it again privately.

Christmas is just the beginning. . . Good Friday was not the end. . . Easter is the finale'. As Christians we can celebrate!

Magnificent!
I once asked the children’s church group if Jesus stayed in the manger.
One little 1st grade girl responded, “No, Jesus grew into a great big God!”

Merry Christmas to you & Happy Birthday, Jesus.

Mike, I have to say that is one of my most favorite songs of all time. I have a beautiful piano arrangement of it that I usually play at some point every year. The movie, The Passion? Well, what can you say. I will never forget seeing that...oh that we would not forget, nor take it for granted. Thank you for all your posts here. Always so full of wisdom and insight.

I have much to learn.

Mike this was wonderful. I don't know how to post these on my blog, but I was thinking about this song, as we sang it Sunday in worship. I wanted to post the words on Christmas Eve. You have done us all a great service by posting this to remind us.
How we need to ponder the things of the Lord in our hearts too.

As a mom, that part of the movie always brings tears. I can't imagine - she loved him like I love my sons...but I can't imagine the sense of responsibility she must have felt. I feel responsible to raise my children to be Godly men (and woman), but I can't fathom what it must have been like for her.

I attended a retreat on Saturday that included the section of The Passion film where Mary follows Jesus on the road, he falls, and she comes to him. We watched it twice with different eyes each time. Jesus offers little comfort other than to tell her he is making all things new. At that moment, in the dark moment, he speaks more through his action, the action of carrying his cross toward redemptive sacrifice. She can offer him little more than trust and obedience. And she cannot see the redemption on the other side of his journey. Nor can we in dark times. And I have been pondering these things since.

Awesome! The mother's loving tenderness, her pain and grief she endured watching her Son and Lord being tortured and crucified!I felt sick to the core and I just couldn't bare to watch the Passion.True indeed ,if it weren't for the birth of Emmanuel, who defied the sting of death .,resurrected and living in us -there would not be a Christian religion.
