Fruit of the Spirit

The fruit of the Spirit is....peace
Galatians 5:22

I love to walk and pray. It is a different sort of prayer to that which happens in a quiet room with a candle, but it is real and vital nevertheless. In recent times my prayer walking has become very busy. I have been carrying questions, fears, complaints, and I have used these times to pour them all out to God, usually as quickly and furiously as possible. On Saturday something happened to me. I decided that I was not going to struggle any more. I prayed one prayer of relinquishment and then walked. I walked and walked and walked. I walked in this beautiful place and drank in the amazing skies, the still lake, the turning leaves and all of God's creation.

And as I walked I was aware of God walking and talking with me. But there was a silence. Not a need to speak. An unutterable peace. And in that peace all the answers I've ever needed came flooding into my spirit. What a struggle it is to finally let go, and what incredible peace and joy come pouring in to a tired a weary soul! Say that prayer today. Just try and let go one more time. Today might be the day of grace for you, when you find that peace that passes all understanding. And there is nothing, absolutely nothing that compares to it.

There was a time in my life when my worried, feverish prayers of "Please help me, please help me" were actually more statements of unbelief- because I was praying and doubting His help at the same time!

A Peace Walk- that sounds lovely. Think I'll take one of those today and let God see I trust Him- because my mouth is closed.

I often pray the St.Birgitta prayer when I walk - God, show me the road and make me willing to walk it.

The real test is when in the midst of the storm you have that peace that passeth understanding.

I agree with you Mike about prayer and walking.

I love the old hymn, "I come to the Garden alone....where He walks with me and He talks with me, and tells me I'm his very own!"

I'm so glad I found your post...I loved the picture too.
Thanks for visiting my blog. I enjoyed reading your entries and found your blog very calming.

I find that when I'm out walking in nature, I can talk to God better than anywhere else. Partly because when I'm out seeing his beautiful creation, I can focus more on thankfulness than my needs first and that puts me in the right frame of mind.

WOW! That sounds so delicious! Glory....I can but burst into praise, Mike! Oh how I love spending time walking alone with Him! It's so different...so unique...He satisfies us so much with His peace.

This morning I was meditating on Colossians 3 where Paul tells us that the peace of God would "umpire" our hearts. I never want to do anything that disturbs that peace. If that peace is lacking I know I am not to proceed...

Thank you for this post....

Sometimes all we need is that little pause, that moment, that space in silence... that walk away from the world... In order to hear that still, small voice inside us. The voice of God. Reminding us that we are not alone in our walk through this life. He is right beside us, all the way.
...Beautiful post.
thanks for this post I love the part where you let go and let God... we all need to know that God is always there to carry our burdens and lift us up till the end.

I have my prayer time while walking in the woods. I love it, too!
God speaks to me in those times, too.
I am glad I found your site, 'brother'.
