Great Expectations

You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit —fruit that will last.
John 15:16

I have a plum tree in my garden which was planted two years ago with great hopes and expectations. I had visions of arm fulls of fruit. Punnets by the dozen. Last year, it produced a humble crop but alas this year there was not a single flower to be seen, and hence, no plums.

In our church community we have been reminded that we need to be careful of the expectations we place on others, and the importance of waiting for God's timing. Flowers take a long time to grow into fruit, and sometimes we need to wait patiently even for the flowers to appear.
